Bermondsey Street Bees East India Dock Honey
Bermondsey Street Bees East India Dock Honey
The East India Docks apiary occupies an historic site by the Trinity Buoy Lighthouse. Now an art gallery, this lighthouse was once the testing ground for a vital coastal network and the place where scientist Michael Faraday conducted his optical experiments. Since being cleared, the land has naturally rewilded, and Bermondsey Street Bees’ hives are sited amongst a wealth of natural forage. Typical of the brownfield sites in this area, it looks at first sight to be a bleak post-industrial environment, but closer inspection shows the many pioneering trees, bushes and low growing flowers including riverine species, each of which brings its particular flavours to this honey.
